How can I access information about expanded community right-to-know programs on the Internet?
Materials accounting data reported by industrial
facilities in New Jersey is available at http://www.state.nj.us/dep/enforcement/relprev/crtk/index.html.
This site currently includes only “raw” data for calendar years 1995, 1996,
and 1997. Users of this information must know how to download large data
files and import them into spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel.
NJ
DEP recently instituted a new on-line, electronic reporting system intended
to speed up access to the data and improve its accuracy. In addition, the
agency is in the process of developing a user-friendly website with on-line
search capabilities to provide easy access to materials accounting data.
Until this website is fully operational, users of the data must evaluate it
on their own. For assistance, contact NJ DEP’s Community Right to Know
Program at 609-292-6714.
For a step-by-step guide to using New
Jersey’s toxic chemical reporting program, see INFORM’s Expanding the
Public’s Right to Know: Materials Accounting Data as a Tool for Promoting
Environmental Justice and Pollution Prevention.
Massachusetts makes its TURA data available through the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) at http://www.turi.org/turadata/.
